Veterinarian
Dr. Helen Hu
Dr. Helen Hu grew up in Oklahoma, home to fantastic skyscapes and plentiful wildlife, where both farm and companion animals are an important part of daily lives. From a young age, she has been fascinated by every creature that is non-human and has always had a special love for her family pets. As an undergraduate, her interests in science and biology led her on research expeditions scouring fields for spiders, nurturing hordes of fruit flies in science labs, and finally, fatefully, student interning at a veterinary hospital. It was here where she realized that she wanted to advocate and help care for our non-human companions through veterinary medicine.
After graduating with a degree in Evolutionary Biology from Brown University, Dr. Hu returned to her home state and received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Oklahoma State University. She joined the Huffard Animal Hospital family in 2004 and has since found joy in
helping to strengthen the human-animal bond and help care for our four-legged family members. She has a special heart for our geriatric companions and the delicate balance necessary at this stage.
When not in the hospital, Dr. Hu thrives on spending time with her husband, Frank, and their three children, Audrey, Nate, and Connor. The children keep Dr. Hu and Frank pretty busy with their side gigs as chauffeurs. They also run interference at home, keeping their silly, food-crazy cat, Nutmeg (aka Nutty), from diving into the dog food bag or onto dinner plates. Luckily, their Australian Cattle Dog Mix, Autumn, has more decorum and can be found curled up next to their sides or eagerly joining them on runs. Come visit and share the stories of your loved pets as we work together to provide the best care possible!
